If you are concerned about an infection in the baby's eyes - the best thing you can use is your own breast milk. Just put a couple of drops in each eye and it will usually clear up the problem. As far as antibiotic cream at birth - unless you are dealing with some type of STD - there is no need for it. The doctors use it to avoid law suits. The midwives have it available for use when there is a question about the environment the baby is having to pass through to be born.
