Re: Questions...
here is what the information says...
lactoferrin is an iron binding protein (all proteins will complex with one mineral or another)... It is attracted to iron like nothing else... However, it also seems to have an uncanny ability to deliver iron to where it may be needed in the body...
Some who have shown iron deficiencies, even after and during iron supplementation, have found benefit taking lactoferrin by seeing their iron levels increase, at the same time iron loving bacteria (the "bad" bugs) dramatically decrease and microflora increases... quite an amazing benefit when you think about it.
Most seem to see energy increases, increased clarity of thought, etc. And why wouldn't they if their effective iron levels go up... and the blood then binds oxygen and delivers it as it should?
It is the "bad" bacteria that feeds off of iron that is suspect in things like intestinal inflammation, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, leaky gut, candida, acne, boils, other skin issues, etc.
Apolactoferrin is an iron-depleted form of lactoferrin... in other words, it should be more effective... it does cost quite a bit more though.
Once people have gotten the desired benefit, most back off of use to once every other day, or during times when people are sick... as it seems to boost immunity as well.
Alternatively, according to some sources, a good quality whey powder has about 100 mg of lactoferrin per serving...
And then there is my favorite... Raw goat milk...
A few sites seem to list goat milk nutrition next to cow milk and say cow milk does not contain lactoferrin... I question this... however, do not question that pasteurization renders any available lactoferrin impotent... so if you choose to go the whey protein route, I would look for a raw food product.
In addition, I have no desire to give people false hope here... I think the greatest weight loss I have read from the addition of lactoferrin alone is about 11 pounds... but that in a previously active individual who then realizing increased energy and motivation, became motivated again to again exercise regularly.
Lactoferrin seems to help increase the microflora, especially the bifidus strains...
Others have stated they have realized up to a 13 pound weight loss with probiotics alone... just to be clear, at doses of several hundred billion a day.
So the lactoferrin, and/or the probiotics, may help to get the intestinal health in order... and once that is done, metabolism is bound to improve... and then a weight loss program of healthy foods and exercise can then perhaps become a bit easier to manage realizing success.
