Magnesium deficiencies can definitely cause muscle issues such as spasms, cramps, muscle breakdown, etc.  Therefore trying magnesium supplementation would be a good idea.  I prefer magnesium malate to other forms due to both the magnesium and the malic acid it is reacted with both elevate adenosine triphosphate (ATP).  ATP is what fuels our cells and helps them to function properly.  Acidified forms of magnesium are also better absorbed than the oxide or carbonate.  The recommended dose is 300mg 2 to 3 times daily.

For joints I would focus more on silica sources to strengthen the cartilage and supporting tissues.
