What is Zodiac?

As per Vedic astrology there is an imaginary path in sky on approx 18 degrees arc around the earth in an east west direction. In this imaginary path group of stars are fixed.

In this imaginary path there are twenty seven star groups in the path which are familiar to Vedic astrology and Vedic scholars. These starry groups are called zodiac. These zodiacs help India Astrologers in structuring the position of planets and stars in sky.

Zodiac is on all sides of earth so it can be considered as 360 degrees, the 27 groups of stars are evenly placed in sky or on that imaginary path, hence each of them have a span of 360 degrees/27 = 13 degrees 20' arc.
