Emphysema

Hi there, I was diagnosed with emphysema two years ago, and also have bronchectisis. My consultant has offered me an operation to remove the diseased parts of the lungs that are worst affected. Before I make any decisions, I would like to know if anyone on the forum has had a similer operation. What was the recovery time, and did it make any difference. Being on oxygen already and nebulizers, plus all sorts of painkillers. I am tempted to go through with it, but not if it makes things worse.
Bit of background about myself, I am 37 years old. Had bronchectisis all my life, and asthma. I have had all the usual IV treatments in the past, endoscopys, plus all manner of tablets and injections. None have done anygood.
The main problem is, they cannot identify the germ thats spreading throughout the lungs, so for the past few years they have been trying different IV Antibiotics to see if they make a difference. None have so far. Now two years ago they drop this emphysema on me, and have suggested this operation.
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replys.
