First water fast ~ End of Day 6
Hello all. I am so glad I found this forum. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and your insightful posts. I've been sifting through them for a few weeks before I decided to take the plunge and do a water fast. This is technically my third fast, but the other two were juice fasts and I never made it past the end of Day 2. :-P
I started a
Water Fast (shooting for 10 to 15 days) hoping to reset my system in terms of taste (really really carb and
Sugar addicted), and also to detox as well as help heal from IBS, frequent acid reflux, mild allergy and sinus stuff, and eczema that I've had to varying degrees throughout my life.
To gear up I went on a 95% raw diet for about 2 weeks prior to day 1, and I think that really helped out with the detox symptoms in the first few days. I never drink soda, tea, or coffee so thankfully I didn't have to detox from those either. I did have a lot of leg pain on day 3 and some mild headaches/bodyaches here and there. Today my jaw, teeth, and sinuses really hurt and are draining a bit.
I've felt pretty sluggish and depressed for most of the fast so far, and I am having moderate reflux, mostly at night. I know that's all part of the detox and I'm hopeful it will lift within the next few days. Right now I have a touch of insomnia, especially at night, but luckily I stay home with my kids so I can rest in the afternoons as needed.
One benefit I had not expected but am very pleased with is this fasts affect on my anxiety. I've had anxiety attacks off and on for the last 15 years. For the last year or so they've been pretty severe to where I can't stay up past midnight, or I automatically get one. I don't take meds for this, always hated the side effects; but since starting the fast I haven't had one, even though I couldn't sleep until 4am this morning, and not only that I just feel more 'secure' in my body (if that makes sense) and overall.
