Re: Ozone Generating Air Purifiers CORRECTION

They WILL kill mold, but do not break down the toxic remains of the mold organisms. Since they do NOT filter them out of the air, and often have electrostatic components that cause these remains to cling to all surfaces, ozone air filters designed for the home often compound the problem.

While they are safe to be around at very low doses, those low doses WILL destroy many articles in one's home if used constantly for a long period of time: elastic in clothes, bands necessary to operation of DC players, recorders, computer disks, video players, etc.

At higher, more effective doses it is advised to be out of the space till about 20 min after the device is turned off. That dose can clear noxious chemicals from clothing and such, but would have the same problems regarding mold remains mentioned above.

Best option is to keep a place squeaky clean, ceiling to floor, very simple hard easy to clean surfaces, clutter-free, stuff stored in seal-able plastic storage boxes. Also dehumidify, keep well below 45%. Then, unless a leak happens, not likely to have a problem.
