Re: How long til vision improves?
It's funny you should mention the eye-focus thing! I have been so consumed by severe dry eye these past years that problems with focus seemed secondary and I ignored them.
Luckily, though, I only had one really bad episode with focus, and it was about two months post removal. It was also right before I got my second period and was crawling out of my skin with anxiety, and not getting much sleep. I do a lot of close-reading at work, so it drove me a little nuts, but luckily disappeared and hasn't returned once I got my second period.
Hang in with the dry eyes. Based on my previous experience with dry eyes and birth control (my severe dry eye was brought about my Mircette and worsened with Mirena), it took about a year and a half after quitting birth control for my eyes to feel completely comfortable again. I think my eyes are a lot more damaged than yours however, because I was taking, and still must take Restasis twice a day to function normally, and use non-preservative eye drops several times a day.
I'm currently having a setback with my eyes, and it's 5 months-post. I'm hoping that this will resolve in the next couple of weeks. I had a setback after my 3rd period as well.
Don't be afraid to consult an opthalmologist (NOT an optometrist), and please use non-preservative drops to soothe and protect your eyes during the day. For really bad flares you might be prescribed a short-term tapered steroid drop with
Antibiotic drop, which will protect and soothe your eyes until the flare passes. I stubbornly ignored my dry eye for awhile when it first developed, and as a result ended up with severe infection and corneal scarring, which, believe me, you DON'T WANT.
