Re: The fuzzy math of CDC "Flu Related" death estimates

Yes, my daughter was supposedly to have H1N1 in September since the nasal swab came back negative for the seasonal flu. Then in November (the day before her birthday party) she came down with flu-like symptoms again! Headache and fever, we had to cancel her birthday party that Saturday. Her fever ranged from 103.5-99.6 (up and down) for seven days and she had loose stools too. She had a bout of nausea briefly, but generally managed to eat something every day and drink fluids (I also plied her with Occilococcinum every hour until the 3rd day when she complained and we went to 3 times a day and vitamin D) Her fever broke that Thursday afternoon and by Saturday, she was well enough to enjoy a slumber party with 3 of her girlfriends.

The story on the 5yr old just startled me because she didn't have a fever. The fact that she was taken to the hospital after 24 hrs of vomiting and diarrhea and she still died. I guess that severe dehydration had set in by the time the parents had taken her to the hospital. But, I would think that if she had spent the night not keeping anything down and having diarrhea it would have been alarming enough for the mom to take her in that morning, right? Or did she just did not realize how dangerous dehydration is in a toddler???
