Hi Kim,
According to the principles of the SCD diet, it's the way your food interacts with the bacteria in your intestines that can cause or exacerbate a flare. Eliminating the foods you're allergic to should help your health overall, but if you're on the SCD diet you should avoid the "illegal" foods including rice. They supposedly can "feed" bacteria in your intestines, contributing to a flare. It is recommended to stay on the diet for about 2 years. If you're still having minor symptoms at that time, it's recommended to stay on it until you've been symptom free for 6 months. I think the SCD diet can be very beneficial for some people. It's about finding what works for you, which can include some trial and error. It might also be helpful to get your body in an alkaline state. There are ph strips to easily check your ph level, and various books available to help you do this.

According to the book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, it's possible to do a simple self-test for food allergies at home. Here's what they recommend:

Sit down for three minutes so your body is relaxed.
Check your pulse by setting a timer for 60 seconds and count your heartbeats.
Eat the food in question.
Set the timer for 20 minutes.
Sit down for three minutes again so your body is relaxed.
Check your pulse again.
If your pulse is 10 beats per minute higher than it was before you ate the food, your body may be reacting to the food and it may be a food allergy or sensitivity for you.

I tried this recently and found one food that made my heart rate go up 40 beats per minute, while I was just sitting there reading a magazine.
