Oregano oil in pregnancy

I have had some private e-mails come in by people who didn't want to post publicly, asking if MH is right about oregano during pregnancy. Since he is giving a first-hand testimony on it's usage, I think you should pay attention. I have used it safely on infants, children and adults. However, I have not had personal experience with it during pregnancy because of the research I have done. In spite of this, I have learned through personal experience to pay more attention to actual case histories than to random research.

Here's how I see it - some plants in nature are pretty specific on their actions. Others tend to work with whatever the body needs at the time you are using it. For instance: yarrow - when taken as a hot tea, it acts as a diaphoretic, meaning, it will make you sweat - that's why it is so wonderful to use for flus, colds, cleansing, etc., because it helps you to sweat out the toxins. When yarrow is taken as a cold tea, it acts as a diuretic, meaning it will make you urinate, so if you are trying to flush out the bladder or kidneys, you would want to take it cold.

Lobelia - when taken in small amounts, Dr. Christopher referred to this as the 'thinking herb' because it appears to help orchestrate the herbs which are in combination with it, to do whatever the body needs at the time. In small amounts, taken alone, it works to help relax the system and as a pain killer. In large amounts, it is an emetic, which means it will make you vomit.

Cayenne - this is one of those herbs who tends to work with the body. It will lower blood pressure - it will raise blood pressure - it will stop bleeding, internally and externally - it just depends on what the body needs at the time you are using it.

Poison Hemlock - this is a deadly poison when taken internally, so, will nature hurt you - absolutely - she is to be respected and used with wisdom or she will bite you in the rear.

Comfrey - the "research" claims this is not safe to be taken internally. However, I have proven time and time again - with my own family and many others - that comfrey is perfectly safe in large amounts when needed, unless you already have serious liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis.

So, if MH and Brenda have used oregano oil safely during pregnancy, then I think you should definately pay attention to his experiences and know that you have another safe alternative to use when you need it.
