the flu
The first time I met with the cardiologist at the childrens hospital he wanted to know if Kaylee was up to date on her immunizations. When I told him she had never had one - he was concerned - he told me that if she comes in contact with RSV or the flu, it will be a death sentence. He said that there would be nothing they could do to help her.
Last Friday night, Kaylee started running a fever - she is teething, so I didn't think too much about it at first. At about the same time, my 4 year-old grand-daughter, who lives with us started getting sick. Sunday morning I sent my daughter to the emergency room with her daughter to find out what she had, so I would know what Kaylee had been exposed to. They came back saying it was H1N1. I don't think they actually tested, so all we really know is it is some kind of flu.
In the last 5 days Kaylee has run a fever, had intestinal cramping, some congestion, ear aches, all kinds of aches and pains - just been pretty miserable. Today she seems to be pulling out of it. Here's what we did: every bottle she drinks has Hawthorne Berry Syrup, BF&C Syrup, Kid-e-well, Kid-e-reg and 1 drop of oregano oil added to it. She has had her chest and back covered with Vicks - her feet massaged with garlic oil and an oil diffuser going in the bedroom with a Young Living combination called "RC".
If the fever seemed to be getting out of hand, I have given her a little infant motrin, simply because I couldn't afford to have her heart working over-time and I don't trust her 'thermostat'. (you can often bring a fever down by rubbing the bottom of the feet with peppermint oil, but she's a unique case)
She has not been to a doctor or the hospital - so, even in a case as serious as hers, if we work with the body and keep the right supplies on hand, we can beat these engineered viruses. Other than her mother being exhausted from sleep deprivation, none of us are any worse for the wear.
