Water Filter Suggestions
The following info is assuming that you do NOT have any source of electricity, propane, ect in order to distill water. The following suggestion is based on needing a small, portable water filter that has been proven to work all over the world in emergency situations, under all kinds of conditions and where there is no propane or electricity.
Gravity filter systems work well, but you need to study the makers and their claims very carefully as they will use terms that sound impressive but are downright misleading. Remember, you want a FILTER, not an ABSORBER, some companies call their systems "water filters" when in reality they are just "absorbers" Big difference.
The Doulton brand has been tested all over the world and works very well. It is a water filter, the BLACK cartridges sold as filters by some dishonest or unknowing distributors are ABSORBERS and cannot be cleaned like the genuine Doulton filters can be.
The Doulton water filter is ceramic and if the exterior surface gets dirty from filtering pond water or creek water or flood water you can simply remove the filter, scrub its surface with a rough cloth or green 3M pad, rinse off, and use again and again.
DO NOT buy black filters as they are inferior to the Doulton ceramic filters. Black filters cannot be cleaned and used over and over. Doultons can.
These people have the best prices on the web (that I have found) for Doulton water filters of all shapes and sizes. I have a large stainless steel unit, the large "food grade" plastic unit, and 6 of the Doulton Mini personal units.

The history of Doulton ceramic filters can be found here:

DO NOT buy the "Sport Berkey" on that page as its filter is a black absorber and not a true Doulton ceramic filter.
The link above has the lowest pricing, free shipping, and moderate customer service.
If you cannot afford one of the $75.00, $200.00, or $220.00 units there, don't panic!!! Simply buy one or two of the actual filters themselves, they are sold at that link seperately. Drill a hole into the water container of your choice, insert the filter(s) and voila!!! you have your own low cost, dependable, easily carried, water filter system. In an emergency you could take one of the filters at that link, cut the top off a 2 liter coke bottle, make a hole in the bottom, screw on the filter tight, and fill the 2 liter pop bottle with water. Catch the clean water in a seperate container and you have a water filter system that can be carried or used almost anywhere!
Add in some pure Oil of Oregano as MH suggests, let sit for 10 minutes, and drink.
And That Is All
