What you and your son have is a common cattle roundworm. They will be 1/2 inch to just over an inch long when grown. They are called "hair worms" or "wire worms" because they look like black hairs or wires.

They are very closely related to hookworms in the way that they infect humans and in the way that they live and breed. They are smaller than hookworms - but their eggs are bigger - those are the black specks you are seeing.

They are treated just as hookworm roundworms are treated. A good protocol is 30 days on an anti-parasitical 90 days off - then another 30 days on. Make sure that what you are using is also killing the EGGS.

They can be eridicated in both you and your son.
