In November of 2008, I had my Mirena implanted. The first few side effects I noticed were tolerable. Highly emotional, excessive sweating.

In March and April, however, I began having constant nausea and diarrhea. I also had horrible tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. The headaches worstened.

In May 2009 I started losing my vision. I began seeing specialist after specialist and received my full course of tests (MRI, brain scans, spinal tap, blood work, etc.)

Papilledema was the prognosis (which is in itself a symptom of something more serious going on). My visual field in both eyes was being choked off and huge blind spots were appearing in the narrow portions I could still see through.

I was diagnosed with PseudoTumor Cerebri in June of 2009 by a Neurologist. By this time, my papilledema was at a stage 3 (yes! within one month!). Stage 5 is total blindness.

I was put on Diamox, 4 tabs/day. It is not a pleasant medicine but did seem to alleviate the headaches and halt the progression of my vision loss some.

At the urging of my intuition and suspicions, I had my Mirena removed 3 weeks ago. The diarrhea and nausea dissappeared within days, as well as the tingling and numbness in my hands and feet.

My headaches have subsided and I have been able to discontinue the diamox.

My vision has not improved but has not deteriorated any further.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Mirena caused my blindness. Permanent damage to the optical nerves has ensued.

I'll be going in for another field vision test in 2 weeks and will keep you all posted.
