How do you know if the "acute infection" phase has passed?

I went to the ER about 10 days ago after waking up with my bladder feeling as though it was about to burst and then finding that I was unable to pass urine. I also felt very nauseated and almost like I was going to pass out. I never had pain really, I was more just very bloated and my bladder felt like it was going to explode. After a day at the ER and them ruling out a bladder infection, doc said barium/radioactive dye CT scan showed diverticulitis. He wrote me scripts for Cipro and Flagyl and I went home. I've just finished the Antibiotics but am still feeling bloated and some days have the "full bladder" feeling for a few hours at at time. Also still get small episodes of "burning" right in the center of my lower abdomen. I'm worried that the infection isn't gone despite having taken the Antibiotics . I am fearful of having to go into the hospital for the this. I have an appt. to see a GI doc in one week. I just wish this would go away. I've been following the special diet and trying to drink plenty of water but need to drink more. I'm a female age 30 and scared to death!
