Passing a Stone and Pain

A friend of mine is in process of passing a kidney stone and of course is in pain. He doesn't want to go to the hospital because of trust issues and figures they'll just stick him in bed and watch him pass it...he can do that at home.

He's asked me to find out if anyone has a remedy to ease the pain. I've looked several pages back and have found nothing. Thanks for any help!
