Re: Speaking of ears...(ear candling)
is ear candling effective? Some say the residue left in the candle after candling is melted wax from the candles, not ear was.
Some, if not all the wax, is from the candle. I have used them quite a few times in the past, and they do make you feel better. I even talked to a doctor that uses them extensively after he saw someone’s lymph nodes all go down after using them. On the other hand I heard the same thing about the wax being from the candle so I tried an experiment. I lit one and stuck the ear end in some sand and let it burn down the same as if it were in someone's ear. And yes, wax had accumulated inside the cone, and the light ash that is so often referred to as Candida was also there. So I know that at least some of the wax is from the candle. But without more advanced analysis it would be impossible to tell if some of the wax is from the ear or not. There are several things that lead to believe that this may be the case. I have seen various colored waxes after burning, including gray, which does not match the wax from the ear candle. And there is the change in the smoke smell at a point of burning down. The entire candle is made from the same materials, so I would expect the smell to remain the same through the entire burning if it were only candle wax. So I cannot say for sure. Again someone needs to do a more thorough analysis to finally answer the question.
I do like them though regardless. I have used them to get water out of my ear after scuba diving. And they do make your head feel "lighter". On the other hand I have used them for impacted wax a few times without success. If done properly though they are not going to hurt anything, but they can help in some cases. Maybe it is not removing wax, but maybe the heat is stimulating acupressure points in the ear or something.
