Cancer Pain

Because of the pain of cancer, doctors many times give their patients Morphine for it's analgesic effect. After reading that Morphine is a piperidine-phenantrene opium alkaloid and that alkalizing agents reduce excretion of Morphine in urine....I was wondering if alkalizing one's body while using Morphine would help in keeping the Morphine in the body to do it's job, so you would not have to keep upping the dosage as one becomes accustomed to it?
