I don't agree most people aren't taking this much unless they are specifically taking a Vitamin C supplament. I think a typical multi will have about 350mg or 580% daily value. Some Multi and supplaments will have more.
At 1000mg were talking about 1,500% daily value. I heard somewhere that animals produce this much completely on their own but man can't manufacture this vitamin. It must be included in the diet.
Another point is the quality. Buffered is better than plain Vitamin C and I think Esterified C is better than Buffered. It also helps if the cofactors are included in the formulation.
One weird thing I heard is that there are some commercial oranges that have no Vitamin C content. Makes me wonder about the nutrient values of the vegetables too.
