Reading up on a favorite wildflower, herb, and "weed," I note that Prunella vulgaris, commonly known as Heal All or Self-heal, is good against cold sores / herpes virus.





It's said to be even better than Lemon Balm (Melissa o.), but I have no experience in that area. If I ever catch it (herpes), I mean to try it. It's said to work deep and kill or impair the virus at the nerve. Searche turn up forum posts by people who have tried commercial formulations containing Prunella v, who claim their outbreaks were much shorter and/or did not return when they used said ointment.

Can you make an ointment or infused oil? Sure you can.

This amazing little plant grows almost everywhere. In fact, after searching my acre in vain, I ordered two packets of seeds around June 10. Lo and behold, before my seeds germinated, Self Heal had reached epidemic proportions in my lawn, where it had been surviving just under the mower blade.

I'll leave it to you to read and research more, but Prunella vulgaris has been known as a panacea for hundreds, if not thousands of years, so I suspect there's something to this anti-herpes use, even if the FDA has found no supporting evidence (because nobody's ever had 800,000 FED-notes to invest in studying a common weed that grows more robustly than the dandelion!
