For optimal hydration , when your feeling thirsty have a drink of water. I think that we as humans have forgotten how to tell when we are thirsty, or full. Sweet drinks and alchohol will make you thirstier. Anything with caffine is a diuretic, so you need to drink a little more to compensate for the water you lose or don't drink things with caffine.

There is a lot of hype about Sea Salt , it is still sodium chloride, with a few trace minerals if it is unrefined. So will have the same effect on the body as normal table salt .

If you become severly dehydrated due to illness , vomiting or excessive sweating, you will need to replace elecrolytes and salt with your water.

Dehydradtion can occur not because we don't drink enough, but because we are drinking the wrong things, drink water and you will not be dehydrated.
