Re: Fasting

I did a 40 day fast and lost about 30 pounds. I put 10 back on once I started eating. If your goal is to lose weight, I don't think I would choose an extended fast to do it. Any time you deny your body food for any length of time, it will automatically try to store everything you eat for times of 'famine'. It would probably be more effective to go on a live-food diet where you are giving the body what it needs which will reprogram it, where it isn't hungry all the time or feels like it has to store everything you touch.

People tend to be over-weight for several reasons:
- pure gluttony
- emotional reasons
- feel constantly hungry - this is normally due to eating the wrong types of foods which are not delivering the nutrients the body needs, so you constantly feel hungry because the body is trying to fill it's nutritional needs
- sedentary lifestyle - you never move, but you continue to eat as though you do
- physical problems, such as poor thyroid or hormones which are out of balance - too often, these tend to be a good excuse - instead of a sound reason

Weight loss usually boils down to math - you have to burn more calaries than you take in. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but it is still a fact of life.

To answer your question about skin - my skin went down with the weight loss - no sagging. However, I should tell you that I was blessed with good skin. I carried and gave birth to 9 children without ever getting a stretch mark on my stomach. I had a few on my breasts when I went from a C to an F, but I never had any on my stomach.

As far as my experiences go - I posted alot of the day to day stuff when I was going through it - if you scroll back a few pages on the forum, you can read all about it. Along with what I posted, there were several experiences during that time which were too personal to share on a public forum like this. Fasting for that long tends to make you open to some pretty deep spiritual and emotional experiences if you are ready for them. I did that fast 6 months ago, but I am still growing, changing and learning from experiences I had then.

If you want to do a fast to cleanse the body and grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, then the best advise I can give you is to prepare yourself. It takes a certain mindset to do it and it will work better and easier if you plan a time where you can detach yourself from alot of the day to day frustrations and stresses. You need to meditate, to do some soul-searching and to listen to your body, so that you can rest when you need to.

Hope this helps - good luck with your decision and keep me posted on how it goes for you.
