On a personal note, I know that this article is not exaggerating the potential adverse side effects related to imaging tests. My dad ended up on dialysis following a CT Scan. The doctors told him that his kidneys were damaged as a result of the contrast agent used for the CT Scan and they did not know if he would ever get off of dialysis. My dad had no previous history of kidney disease prior to this event. Fortunately, his kidneys did eventially recover (at least partially) and he was able to discontinue dialysis. But I can't even imagine the nightmare of being forced to be on dialysis the rest of your life because of a CT Scan!!
Please discuss and consider your options carefully when a practitioner recommends that you get a CT Scan. I have personally witnessed practitioners order CT Scans for the purpose of 'CYA', if you know what I mean!
