Re: What to do next?
Hi ghoney,
I wanted to add something because I've been to see a dermatologist today.
I suffer from a thick beard-like growth around my chin. I've had it since I was in my late teens and after numerous trips to see various doctors who dismissed it I've finally seen someone who has offered me an answer.
I had blood tests done to check my thyroid and testosterone levels, they came back normal. I was also tested for polysystic ovary syndrone and that came back negative as well.
I saw the dermatologist today and his reply was that sometimes there is no reason why this happens, in people of carribean background it is quite common. I am not carribean but they couldn't give me an answer and he outlined two options for me.
1. Laser light treatment, where the laser is used to destroy, over lots of visits, the hair folicle. But this is VERY expensive.
2. I was prescribed Vaniqa, which in the uk has just become available on the NHS. As it was mentioned before this also slows the hair growth.
So now after 8 years of this hopefully I won't spend everyother day plucking the hairs out of my chin and hoping noone will notice.
I hope this helps!
