“If everyone ate a plant based diet it would solve all the worlds problems.”
Steve, I wish world’s problems would be all that simple and so easily fixed!
Some years back I had a period of free time in my hands and that prompted me to calculate all kind of things.
One particular subject started when I saw an argument similar to this on a webside.
Some people argued that animal production is a waist of land use and the land should be used to grow a plant-based food. Sounds simple enough if one had a narrow view!
In that particular (European) country, as also in America, lives a population of wild animals.
What has that got to do with this, one may ask?
A lot!
If those populations are left to multiply freely, in relatively few years time they would occupy large part of the land, also including the one some people would rather preserve for plant-based food. Ultimately there would be one for every backyard, which would (I nearly forgot) solve a pet animal problem. You would have one like it or not! All you need to do is to name them!
For the argument I am only talking about one species, namely elks. Of course there are whole host of other smaller species to count!
The answer is BALANCE, my friend. We humans are already upsetting the balance of the earth to the extremes; one may say we have already gone beyond the point of return .
Some people are eating mainly plant based food and some eats animal proteins and fats, not necessarily by choice but as their available everyday food.
For rest of us we can choose!
To me I wish to maintain the balance and take the middle road, eating selectively wide spectrum of food, if not for any other reason but one:
Nobody so far produced clear evidence, that the one is better than the other!
