The theory is sound -- but in practice I consider them more trouble than they're worth.

Threading, waxing, plucking etc. can actually increase the growth of hairs that are already hormonally-fuelled.

Vaniqa is medically-approved and effective for a significant proportion of people. See if your doctor will prescribe it for you at least to try it.
However, the way I look at things, it's far easier and quicker to shave.
