Find edibles in your area
Passing along an email I received:
Dear Dquixote1217,
I wanted to let you know we've launched a new extension for the forums at Wilderness-Survival.net
Wildcrafting.net is an exciting new Google Maps mashup that allows you to research wild edibles, as well as contribute with comments and pictures. But the real cool part is the ability to, using satellite imagery or GPS coordinates, plot exact locations where plants grow.
As people use the site and plot locations the usefulness of the site will grow and eventually the goal will be to allow someone to visit the site and type in their address and see all the wild plants that grow near them. Or to find a campground or place they plan to hike to at a National Park or something and see the wild edibles they could eat there.
The only way this will happen though is if people add locations, and for that, I need your help. You're already a member on Wildcrafting.net because it shares the same user system as Wilderness-Survival.net. So all you have to do is go, login, and start adding plant locations you know about (please, don't guess, for the sake of accuracy). Then, from now on, as you're out and about, if you see a wild edible on public lands remember it and when you get home, logon and add that location. Lets build the world's largest database of wild edible locations together!
To sweeten the deal we're running a contest through October 31st where the top contributors can win prizes. More info on that can be found on the site, and we plan to continue to add more prizes as we procure them.
Thank you,
Chris
