Better Homes and Gardens - Perfect Meringue
The classic light and fluffy topping for your favorite fruit-filled pie or baked Alaska.
Ingredients:
* 3 egg whites, at room temperature
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
* 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
* 6 tablespoons sugar
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat egg whites with vanilla and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar; beat until stiff and glossy. Pie filling should be at room temperature. Spread meringue over filling, sealing meringue to edges of pastry all around to prevent shrinking. Bake 12 to 15 minutes, until meringue peaks are golden brown.
