Even more nightshade vegetables? I'm confused now.

I found a list of nightshade vegetables that include more than just the potato, tomato, pepper and eggplant. It included:

artichoke
asparagus
avocado
bamboo shoots
beet
curly dock
erns ginseng
fennel
new zealand spinach
okra
plantain
purslane
sheperd's purse
sorrel
spinach
sweet potato
swiss chard
yams
zucchini

Does anyone know if this list is correct? I also saw somewhere that garlic was on the list but garlic is a member of the lilly family and NOT nightshade. Yet another list contained cucumbers and even broccoli. WTF?? I am so confused. I can certainly live without potato, peppers or eggplant and can sacrifice tomato if needed - although a fresh tomato on top of a lovely avocado with a thin slice of vidalia onion is pure heaven.......

But broccoli? zucchini? GARLIC?? There is little else left besides lettuce...
