Re: Matchmaker Donna, I didn't forget, just got busy - Tomatoes

Thank you so much Fledgling and Dh. I have learnt so much from reading your post. I went out yesterday to pick one of my very red rippened tomatoes and to my surprise half of it was eaten. I have a dog named Benji that is a cacapoo and who also loves veggies. He ate it I just know it. My dad told me tonight that a few years ago when he was able to plant tomato plants in the ground, he would pick off the suc***s. You should have seen his tomato plants. They were so high we had to get on a tall ladder just to pick the tomatoes at the top of the vines. lol. His shed was over 10 feet high and the vines were that tall. I had never in my life seen tomato plants that tall but that is what he said he did to get them to grow that tall is to pick off the suc***s.

I have been taking off some leaves but not all of them. I will go out tomorrow and pick off some more. I will now water around dawn.

Fledgling, I don't have a basement. lol. I don't think that many homes in California have basements. I remember my grandmother who lived in Indiana she had a basement but it snowed there really heavy. Where I live in Calif, we don't get snow at all. I live about 60 miles east of San Francisco.

I would love to get your recipe for green tomato mincemeat.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to educate me on how to get the best tomatoes. Hugs, Donna
