Re: store bought enema
Hi, you could empty out the pre-packaged Phopo-Soda solution and substitute a
Sea Salt solution, but it would be better if you just bought a combination hot water bottle - douche - enema bag set, or a fountain syringe.
The pre-packaged disposables are typically only 4.5 ounces, and you get less that 4
oz per squeeze and have to keep refilling, so it would probably take 9 or 10 squeezes just to take a quart, and double that for a full bag. It's just too inconvenient to be practical.
Phospo-Soda enemas are based on the fact that their solution has such a high concentration of Phosphate salts that they draw water from the body through the colon wall by means of osmosis. A standard saline solution is isotonic and doesn't do this. Isotonic means that that it is neutral, neither drawing water out of the body, nor does the body absorb water from the enema.
It's a lot more comfortable and effective with an enema bag if you are positioned such that you have your fingers on the shutoff and can start and stop the flow as desired as the enema progresses. You'll get much better results and it will be a much more relaxing experience.
