--A Lesson to be Learned-- Land Sabbath principles--Gardening.. mugwort

Hi Di,

Your comemnt: Hi, all!

Mugwort, as some of you may know, is an herb with many, primarily non-gustatory, uses!

I have grown it in my yard for over twenty years and harvested it wild for many years before that.

Over the last month or so, I tried using fairly heavy mulching, both fine and coarse, on part of the mugwort in my yard. Here are the results:

Mulched mugwort vf about 5% brix, very pale green leaves, little of its typical fragrance/essential oils.

Unmulched mugwort, receives only what naturally accumulates at the top of the soil in that location, as in the wild: so fuzzy it was hard to determine a percentage, but around 9.5% brix. And VERY fragrant!

Whether that is delightful or not depends on whether one likes this pungent odor. But I would assume that means it is more potent electromagnetically, a more effective herb.

I take this as a reminder that tending to soil and plants is very like managing our own health: The more we gather data, pay attention, and use some practical thinking ability to adjust our course, the better our results may be!

Guess I will un-mulch the experimental patch of mugwort and leave a bit of green material at the surface of the ground so that it can correct itself!!! Should have checked the readings first...if something ain't broke, best not to fix it!!!

Keep seeking, applying, sharing accurate knowledge in order to
keep seeking abundant life and joy!

Di

Answer: Maybe this is a time to try to explain what you and most others may Fail to understand about Plants?

It is called the Land Sabbath Principles !

God Created Plants with at least Three Different purposes !

1-- To Reproduce their own Kind !

2-- To feed animal and mankind !

3-- To Rebuild the Soil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This last one is the one I want to address !

Each plant grows because the Soil needs it to grow to correct a problem or may we say because the conditions have changed in the Soil to prevent other plants from growing!

If this problem is Solved, this plant shall Stop growing in this Soil and other plants shall grow in place of these current plants!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a book written years ago called Weeds: Guardians of the Soil which helped explain this for those able to understand?

Bach to the plants in question you were refering to: When you applied Mulch, this raised the Organic matter and in doing so raised the Nitrogen Levels, which this plant cannot stand much Nitrogen !

Thus this plant will get Sick and Diseased and Stop growing under these conditions !

Yet, in place of this plant other plants requiring More Nitrogen may instead grow in place of this plant?

Nature has Cycles and Plants are part of these cycles !

If one would consider Nature and watch closely to see the changes of Different plants growing in the same soil over the years where they may grow in Harmony with nature one may Learn the Truth?

Vining plants are able to take more Nitrogen out of the Air than Broadleaf plants are able to, yet Broadleaf plants are able to take more Nitrogen out of the Air than Grasses !

Thus in Nature in Poor Low Organic Soils we shall have Brambles and Vining plants growing 1st !

Over the years as these add more organic matter(Higher Nitrogen content) to these Soils, then Broadleaf plants shall slowly take over !

If the soil is able to build enough Organic matter, then grasses shall take over, instead of the Broadleafs !

For the Grasses cannot take as much Nitrogen from the Air as the Broadleafs, but must have the Nitrogn stored in the Organic matter before they are able to use it and grow in these Soils !

Everything has it's cycles !

If we want to grow a plant in a soil it is not growing in we must 1st Create a need for this plant to want to grow !

If we want to grow this plant and end up with the Highest Brix Top Quality of this plant we must learn to allow this plant to have a Greater need to grow in this soil !

Without the Plant having a need to grow it shall be Sick and Diseased, if we try to grow it !

This is some of the basics of the Land Sabbath Principles that almost NO one seems to understand !

Cause and Effect !

Smile Tis your choice.
