--answer...Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria in Gut?--Ruminant
Hi Grz,
Your comment:
Apparently there are both nitrogen fixing bacteria (with NIF genes) living in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions in the mammal gut... I will not post my research here... the curious can search on their own.
I suspect, if we get too much NPN and provide an anaerobic environment, that these nitrogen fixing bacteria populations would flourish and dominate over other, perhaps more beneficial (to us) bacteria... and be a part of why we become ill.
In other words... what lives inside of us does so due to the environment (food) we provide for them.

Answer: I would agree with this last statement about depending upon the environment(food) we provide !
Yet here may be one of the problems thinking our Gut needs Nitrogen fixing Bacteria:
The term "nitrate toxicity" is commonly used but the toxic principle is actually
nitrite. When Nitrate is converted to nitrite. Nitrite is absorbed from the
digestive system converting blood hemoglobin to methemoglobin. Methemoglobin
cannot transport oxygen to body tissues, so People and animals die from oxygen
insufficiency.
Our bodys were not Designed to process Nitrogen(NPN)in our Gut, but to Break down Complete Complexed Proteins, which are made up of Amino Acids which are made up of Nitrogen !
This is Why when we ingest Nitrogen into our Gut we may end up with so many kinds of Sickness and Diseases !
We need to remember that Nitrogen in any forum other than a Complete Complexed Protein is Non-Protein Nitrogen(NPN)!!!!!!!!!!
Now if we consider our Lungs and that the Air they breath in contains 78% Nitrogen, this may be another story, but our Lungs do not contain Bacteria to Digest foods !
Thus we have a Completely Different condition to consider !
The problem with most supposed Experts is they may fail to understand the Difference between Nitrogen and Complete Complexed Protein !
This Deception has lead to many Sickness and Diseases in both animal and Mankind !
When we talk about Nitrogen Fixation we generally are talking about taking Nitrogen from the Air or Soil and making a Complete Complexed Protein from this Nitrogen?
So again, Why would our Gut need to Fix Nitrogen when it is supposed to be Breaking down the Protein into Nitrogen?
Nitrogen may act as the Electricity to make everything else work?
What you may be refering to may be the ruminat animal which has a Different kind of Digestive system than man has?
The ruminant animals Digestion does work much like the Soil Life and may have what some may call Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria, but the Digestion of mankind does not work this way !
Cause and Effect !
Smile Tis your choice.
