Re: tryptophan/tryptan?

5HTP can be somewhat of a heart depressant. If it's used with niacin, it can accentuate the effect. The opposing nutrients are: Taurine, Coenzyme Q10, Carnitine, and magnesium. I've taken it @ 100 mg at night when getting off some of the SSRI drugs. Not to be taken with the SSRI drugs unless you have a doctor's supervision. Otherwise overstimulation of the brain stem can result. 5HTP has an antidepressant effect. It turns into seratonin. It's the intermediate metabolite between tryptophane and seratonin. It's helpful for insomnia, can help with autism, depression, diabetes, drug dependency, chronic pain, hyperactivity, hypertension, the manic stage and weight control. BTW, tryptophan occurs naturally in turkey, chicken, meat, and some green leafy vegetables.
