--answer to Very Good Question on pH--
Hi OTB,
Your question: Does it matter how you take your saliva pH??
I mean on the tongue versus under the tongue versus something like spitting in a container and testing it that way??
If memory serves me correctly I thought I was told years ago that under the tongue was best so thats what I have always done. My BF seems to think otherwise.
I did this morning what I always do every morning first thing is test my saliva pH and put it under my tongue it read 6.2 But when I gathered spit from just any old place from my mouth and did not put the paper directly under my tongue my pH read 7.4 All within a matter of seconds from each other. I tested several more times (but never putting the pH under my tongue and it again all read 7.4 So for the last time I put the paper directly under my tongue and again it read 6.2 and again all within a matter of seconds from each other.
I would think that it matters but I am not sure.

Answer: Because what we want to test is our Saliva as our body supplies to our mouth, we may be Better to test from under our tongue !
Why may this be so?
Once the Saliva spreads out in our mouth it will begin to react with what is in our mouth !
If we have Proteins from food residue that are in the Ammonium form, this would Cause the test to be a Higher pH test than what our Saliva alone really is !
Since the Saliva comes out of it's Glands under our Tongue, this point would seem to be the Best point to take the test !
Thanks for bringing this up !
Cause and Effect !
