Results of Dr. Brownstein's visit & tests
I had limited funds to spend, so asked him to stick to the basics with testing. Right away on palpation he found an enlarged and nodular thyroid (about twice normal size) so had a thyroid ultrasound (and got a freebie liver/GB scan - all clear- when I was talking to the tech about liver flushing, she's into natural stuff.
Tests all came back normal, blood count, cholesterol, kidneys, liver, I forget what else, but thyroid was low. I'm taking 1/2 grain a day of Naturethroid (just started it today) in addition to the iodine, and he recommended some supps that support the thyroid - MSM 4000 mg per day, PABA, and get this - only 100mcg of selenium per day. Straight from the horse's mouth. That was much lower than I was taking (around 6-800).
We'll see how it goes. I took the first thyroid pill today, I think it's natural dessicated thyroid, but it came with an insert that looks a lot like a drug insert, and I hope it's not needed indefinitely.
The thyroid nodules were less than 1/2 cm, nothing that looks like cancer or anything, so this is probably from
Iodine deficiency.
I sent in a hair analysis for heavy metals and mineral deficiency, but haven't heard back yet about that. Very curious to see how that turns out.
As a side note, I'm doing something recommended by my new "holistic" gyno that is REALLY helping my digestion and candida issues, symptomatically, anyway, in terms of bloating and constipation - Young Living essential oil called Di-Gize taken internally, I'm dosing at a few drops a day, right on the tongue, washed down with water, it's strong stuff. Then away from that Orthomolecular's probiotic powder. I've got a fairly flat stomach again and a lot less gas (though being off grains has helped that too).
