Oh my goodness! I am so sorry about this very upsetting situation!

By all means I do not think it is a matter of putting her down. I do not have an answer, but remember when my kitty's get an allergic reaction their tails suddendly dissappear form their licking and bititng.

I had no idea what is was, just that their tails were going down down down.

There are also posts of other people that say the same about their dogs with exzema - they literally scratch and bite themselves raw.

I hope you get an answer from you vet, and maybe contact the dog whisperer? He is so amazing with animal queries I wonder if that may be possible? http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/
