Organic growing: a fact or wishful thinking?
Recently my TV happened to be open when Oprah-TV show was on. I don’t normally watch it but this time there was a lady demonstrating “green way of living”. She had a compost unit to demonstrate how to compost food leftovers, even shredded paper etc.
In theory any attempt to go towards “green living” needs to be encouraged of course!
But how green and pesticide and chemical free the compost out of that box really is?
Responsible person would understand what not to put in the box, but are we all that responsible?
What is in the printing ink that goes there together with shredded papers?
Some leftover food items may have been contaminated with unwanted chemicals?
Accidentally small pieces of plastic may end up there as well?
Any of these minor mistakes will render the whole compost load contaminated!
Secondly, how chemical free is the garden bed where it will be used for ORGANIC GROWING?
While the idea is good and commendable the end result may not be as clean as it should have been!
Food for thoughts!
