Throat virus, going on week 3, need help

I got a really bad sore throat 2 weeks ago and it absolutely will not go away. I had my throat swabbed and it is not bacteria and not strep. The nurse said it was some sort of virus. She said the back of my throat looked like a red cobblestone street. This is agony. I cough like crazy, my tongue has coated white and has a few red bumps. My lymph glands in my throat are swollen. I have never had anything like this. I do not know what to do. Could this be anything else besides a virus? Please, any help. Thank you in advance.
