Re: Ciiiissssco....

Got me thinking about your response, about how amazing it is that she is putting together some sets with her musical partner from when she stopped 18 years ago. Ya, it's pretty cool. She's been performing with the local chorale and opera for years. But this is good.

10 months after her transplant, the hospital had a 10 year transplant thing. Ending up at a Rockies Baseball game in Colorado. Their first season. It was arranged she would sing the National Anthem. Was at the old Bronco stadium. 76,000 people. A capella. She was very nervous about her appearance. Meds had caused significant weight gain and "moonface" as they call it. Al Jarreau was in town and had come, looking to sing the anthem. She bumped him. How often do you get to say that? They announced the "transplantation day" and then her. You could feel 76,000 people collectively thinking "poor thing", can she walk, will she eek out some homely rendition of the anthem. She was standing near home plate. On cue she started. First stanza was nerves. Reserved. I watched as she dug in, dug down, drew in a breath to reach the last seats in the joint. She blew it up. The place started cheering, well before the end. At the end, place went nuts. As she walked off people were yelling to her stuff like "that's how the national anthem should be sung", etc. IOW, she transcended the specter of her as a poorly medical object and she blew the place up through her voice. It is amazing when ability transcends appearance. Al Jarreau leaned to me and said "man, that girl can SING." Yup. We are looking forward to more soon.
