Interesting....For those of you looking for something to print out and take to your docs-take a look at this. It is the labeling info for Jadelle-the new norplant. It is essentially the same as mirena-just the implantation site and hormone levels are different from what i see. (someone please correct me if I am wrong)

Same ingredient, same casing (silicone).
Notes:

Page 4-effects on liver-it was mention by Hveragerthi that estrogen dominance will not occur if the liver is functioning properly. Levonorgestrel is primarily metabolized in the liver.
page 9-average at least 10 lbs weight gain
page 10-info on pseudotumor cerebri (I have seen a few posts with questions on it)
page 16-emotional, visual changes
page 16-17. it mentions the possibility of autoimmune disorders caused by the silicone implant-the CASING!
page 17-can interfere with testing done on endochrine system
page 19-20-much more complete adverse reaction section
page 35-In the patient section of the labeling, THE FIRST PAGE mentions the more technical brochure about the implant. Hmm-what were we told-talk to our docs??????

page 37 is very interesting-says the pregnancy rate for the progesterone IUD is 2%, hmmm, not .01%? amazing how this data can be made to say whatever they want.

page 42-apparently, "population council" is a BIT more forthcoming with their patients than Bayer-possibly because of all the norplant complaints? LOOOnng list of complications. Hey, they even talk about removal!

Anyhow....I think everyone should take a look at this label. takes a lot of the "am I going crazy" questions out of the picture!
