f-165

I am new to the F-165 freqency generator and there is a lot of talk of AC versus DC modes and square waves. The way I understand it the generator works on DC, square wave, but can also be set to run in AC ["offset 50"]to produce more power. Am I on the right track? What would be the prefered mode to run this device in??
