Ear Candling in Child

Dr Mom,

I was wondering if ear candling was okay with young children? I have a 1,2,3,and 4 year old. My 2 and 3 year old have really bad wax buildup and I thought about really doing it with them. Also, I just starting researching it and was wondering if there was more information that you could give me about it. Does it help in other ways besides just cleaning out your ears? What are the benefits of doing this? How often would I want to do this for my children?

Also, my three year old daughter has had ear infections this past winter, about every two to three months. She has been on anti-biotics each time, and now the doctor is starting to talk about doing tubes if she keeps having problems. I have heard that tubes are NOT a good thing, and I don't want to go that route, so I'm wondering if there is something else that can be done to cure and prevent these ear infections from coming back. Also, she is on an antibiotic right now, and has been for the past 4 days, and is STILL complaining that her ear hurts! I have never experienced this before, as it usually goes away or at least she doesn't complain about it, but now I'm really concerned.
