Fullerton gang suspected in attack on pastor
A group of about 20 youths broke church doors and windows, bashed in the minister's car and pelted him and his 3 young passengers with rocks as they fled into the church, he said.
By Bob Pool and Molly Hennessy-Fiske
February 15, 2009
Police were searching Saturday for a group of youths who attacked a longtime Fullerton minister and his sons, chasing them into their church and pelting them with rocks.
The Rev. Willie Holmes, president and founder of Majesty Christian Fellowship, said he was driving his two sons and another passenger back to the church from a Fullerton Union High School concert about 10:20 p.m. Friday when they were attacked near Valencia Drive and Highland Avenue.
A group of about 20 youths thought to be between 15 and 20 darted in front of Holmes' car, shouting "FTT" -- short for Fullerton Tokers Town, a local Latino gang, he said. The youths surrounded the gray 1981 Mazda 626 sedan about a block and a half from the church, which is in a small industrial park. Holmes drove around them and headed for the church. His son Willie Jr., 17, called 911.
Once they reached the church at 431 S. Richman Ave., Holmes said, he and his passengers ran from the car and hid inside the church office.
The attackers ran to the church lot and began throwing rocks and bottles at the office as Holmes' wife, Vanessa, and 13-year-old daughter, Chloe, watched from a nearby church building.
"If we'd stayed in the car they'd really have hurt us," said passenger Taylar Hagen, 19, of Whittier. She said she and the others hid at the back of the office while waiting for police.
Willie Holmes Jr., student body president at Fullerton High, said he was puzzled by the attack because the church has done much to help the surrounding neighborhood.
As the attackers smashed the church office window and door, Kyle Holmes, 20, another son of the pastor, screamed at them that they were damaging a house of worship. The youths then turned their attention to the car, smashing its windows and kicking in its sides, the pastor said.
Holmes, 41, said he suffered scrapes and cuts to his hands and hip during the attack. No one else was injured. Fullerton Police Sgt. Mike Chlebowski said his agency is investigating the episode as an assault. He said the incident involved "a local gang" but would not say whether police believed that the minister was targeted or whether the attack was a hate crime.
Holmes noted that his church, which feeds 60 local families weekly, is clearly marked on the outside.
He has worked at the Richman Avenue church, whose congregation numbers about 150, for 14 years. He said that he's never had problems with local gangs and that the two buildings his church uses have never been vandalized by graffiti.
"We're African American, they're Hispanic, but we take care of the community and have a full Hispanic ministry and a Hispanic pastor," Holmes said. "We feed their families."
Speaking at an afternoon news conference, tears rolled down the cheeks of the minister who has counseled many victims of street violence.
"We don't want retaliation for us coming forth. But we have to take a stand. We have a shattered building and shattered emotions," he said.

And the poor minister's kid is surprised at the attack because they've helped their "community"? Our entire nation has helped these animals, either willingly or unwillingly...and where did it get the rest of us? No further than it got that poor preacher. That picture of him with tears steaming down his face breaks my heart. |

What really breaks my heart is the hypocrisy of the so-called black leadership. If this had been caused by a white gang instead of an Hispanic one, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP, and the national black caucus would have been on the scene in force, demanding action from the mayor, a full investigation, etc. Had this occurred in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, or Jack Murtha's district in Pennsylvania, Jesse, Al and the gang would have demanded action, investigation, etc. etc. Where was Obama on this? According to him (and Jesse, Al and the rest of the gang) the only racists in this country are white and primarily from the places mentioned above (well Jack Murtha is actually the one who says his district is racist).
What happened to the concept that we do not want nor tolerate mob rule in this country? We cannot afford to allow gangs of any persuasion (white, black, Asian, Hispanic, multi-cultural, etc) to attack anyone without exerting the full extent of our resources to arrest them and get them off our streets. |

I hope this Pastor can find it in himself to keep helping after this. If he is really a man of God, he will keep it up, which is far more than I'd ever do for them.

Why is it when hispanics commit violence against other groups that it's rarely considered a hate crime. Yet, it's those same hispanic groups that are the first to cry racism, xenaphobism, nativism, hate, etc., when this country attempts to simply enforce our immigration laws!
The fact is that African -Americans are bearing the brunt of this illegal invasion, physically, economically, and socially, and yet the so called "Black leadership" is completely silent on this issue! Not only are they silent, but have joined hands in some cases with these very groups in an efffort to turn illegal immigration into a civil rights issue.
Unbelievable! |

Pastor claims gang members vandalized church
Police are investigating the Friday night incident at Majesty Christian Fellowship.

Police are investigating an alleged assault of a Christian pastor who claims gang members followed him and members of his family to his church Friday, and then threw rocks at a church member's car and into the church's office – while they hid inside.
Pastor Willie Holmes – a founder of International Non-Denominational Assemblies and the Majesty Christian Fellowship in Fullerton 14 years ago – said Saturday that he feared the youths were planning to murder them.
“Last night, I slept here. I didn't want anyone to break in,'' said Holmes, 41, sitting a few feet away from shards of glass in the office. “And for the first time in my life, I thought about buying a gun. I thought, maybe I need a gun to protect my family.”
The report of vandalism at the church and its offices, located at 431 S. Richman Ave. happened around 10:22 p.m. Friday, Fullerton Police Lt. Craig Brower said. He declined to comment on the church members' account, but did say it is an ongoing gang-related probe and that no one has been arrested.
Holmes and other church officials, though, alerted media to the incident. On Saturday, reporters and camera crews were stationed in the church's parking lot while Holmes described the alleged attack.
Around 10:15 p.m. Friday, Holmes said, he was driving on Valencia Street near South Richman Avenue when the youths, who he said were not provoked, started to follow his car. Holmes was in the car with his two sons, and two other church members.
One of the male youths threw a beer bottle at the car, and then the group followed Holmes to the church. The youths then headed toward the car, forcing them to flee into the church office, Holmes said.
The youths kept yelling at them to come out, said Taylar Hagan, a church member who also was with Holmes. “We thought we would be safe to go into the church,'' Hagan said.
But the youths, according to the Holmes, then threw rocks through the glass doors of the office, shattering two windows. One of the rocks hit Holmes on his hip, but his injuries did not require hospitalization.
The youths then left, he said. Police -- who were called three times during the incident -- responded to the scene.
Holmes said there is gang activity in the neighborhood, and that youths had never before confronted churchgoers or vandalized the church.
Holmes is involved in Orange County community events, and is a past organizer of the Black History Month Parade which was discontinued this year. His church – which draws between 100 and 400 congregants – also gives out food to the needy on a weekly basis and conducts youth mentorship and after-school programs.
Holmes estimated the damage at $10,000 to $15,000. A framed photo of Jesus leaned against the damaged front of the office. The car he was driving also had broken windows.
“We live in the same neighborhood. Why would they do this?'' said Holmes, who resides in Corona, while giving a television interview. “We love the people. This never should have happened.''
After the news conference, they started singing the noted civil rights hymn, ‘'We Shall Overcome.” Holmes said the church will continue to have its services Sunday, followed by a march against gang violence.

MORE SUSPECT'S SOUGHT IN MASS ATTACK ON MINISTER
Fullerton police are searching for teens suspected of attacking a minister and his family as they drove to church on Saturday. Willie Holmes is president and founder of International Nondenomenational Assemblies. He told police that 10 to 20 youths stepped in front of his car Friday night and began throwing rocks, bricks and bottles. He said they shouted the name of a local gang. Holmes said the group followed him as he drove away, but he and his family managed to escape and run into the church. City spokeswoman Sylvia Palmer Mudrick said two juvenile suspects were in custody, and more were being sought.

Fullerton pastor holds march after gang attack
About 50 people participate in the Rev. Willie Holmes' procession to raise awareness about community violence. Holmes said he's disappointed police have arrested only 3 of about 20 suspects.
By Christine Hanley
February 16, 2009
A longtime Fullerton minister who was targeted in a gang attack led a march Sunday to raise awareness about community violence as police announced they had arrested three juveniles on suspicion of hurling rocks and bricks at the minister and his sons.
The Rev. Willie Holmes, president and founder of Majesty Christian Fellowship, said about 50 to 60 supporters joined the procession after church services.
"We're going to get through this in peace and in love," Holmes said in a phone interview after the march.
Three of the suspects have been booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism and a gang enhancement, Fullerton Police Sgt. Mike MacDonald said Sunday in a written statement.
Holmes said he was driving with his two sons and another passenger Friday night when a group of about 20 youths confronted them about a block and a half from the church.
According to Holmes, the youths shouted "FTT" -- short for Fullerton Tokers Town, a local Latino gang -- and ran in front of the car. He said he drove around them and headed to the church, where he and his passengers ran from the car and hid inside. The attackers followed on foot and smashed the windows of the pastor's car and the church office when they arrived.
Police responding to a 911 call detained two of the suspects almost immediately and caught up with a third a short distance away, according to MacDonald.
They were in custody at Orange County Juvenile Hall.
Holmes said he believes that more youths could have been arrested, considering the size of the group that confronted him. He said he is disappointed that police have not called him since the attack, and that no one from the Police Department or City Hall participated in the march.
"I'm going to keep moving on in spite of the circumstances," Holmes said.

I just heard this reported on a local TV station in Southern California. They showed the pastor and his wife along with many supporters--and they only said that he was attacked by a gang (20 of them!). No mention of Mexican gang. No mention of any names. Nope. Just a random "gang" attacked him. How disgusting. I wonder how long it will be before they have to acknowledge what group it was? |

It is a hate crime, and we all know it.
Illegal aliens and their anchor babies biting the hand that feeds them, no, could not imagine them doing such a thing !!
A bunch of ungrateful, hateful animals. I am so disgusted that this pastor, his family and his church members have suffered due to the actions of illegals, and/or the anchor babies of illegal aliens. This shows their true colors, once again.

The original post just states that the criminals were Hispanic, not illegal aliens. Lets not jump to conclusions now. The problem here is American youth not giving **** about school and thus getting involved in gangs. Why can't we be more like Japan in terms of education sigh. |

The look on the pastor's face is heartbreaking.
There are people that really need his help and the community threw it back in his face. Yes, these young men are part of the community... I wouldn't blame the pastor for picking up shop and going somewhere else.
And I hope he does.
*Something about rocks? I was at a community meeting and a man spoke about how his son was driving home and a group of Hispanic youth threw rocks breaking his windows. |

It actually happened to be some 2 years back. A group of White teenagers were throwing pebbles at cars driving by this one busy road. I happened to have my window open and those punks managed to get one in. Unfortunately for them it did not hit me in the face and provoke an accident. |
