Humans are not capable of sacrifice.

There has to be a revulsion of the ego to begin spiritual life. Those who do not have this revulsion will view the sacrifice of the ego negatively as if someone was killing them. But the ego is only fear and therefore it is unreal. It is the action of separating oneself from God which is ones true nature.

Spiritual teachers that demand sacrifice are not popular.

They refused Jesus too.
