Re: MMS - Gingivitis - Stomatitis - Urgent Help
Hello Blue,
I would first recommend diluting the 28% solution (which contains 22.4% sodium chlorite) down to a 5% sodium chlorite solution for safer handling. If you take 1 part of a 22.4% solution and add 3.48 parts water to it, you will end up with 4.48 parts of a 5% solution. 22.4 is 4.48 times 5.
We have had some success brushing cats and dogs teeth with a solution made up by putting 0.25 ml of 5% sodium chlorite in a glass and adding 0.25 ml of 10%
citric acid . Let the activation continue for 10 minutes, then add 125 ml of water to dilute. Use this solution to brush the teeth, or rub it on the gum line. The application is done once or twice a day if there are problems, or once a week for general maintenance.
We don't have a lot of history using this, but so far things are looking good. Our primary interest is eliminating the tartar build up, but we have also observed improvements in the gum line.
I have no idea if this solution will keep for any length of time, or not. We use 1 ml graduated oral syringes for the chemical measurements, and mix up a new solution each time. I think this is the best way to go.
We started off with an unactivated sodium chlorite solution, then realized that the PH of animals mouths is different than that in humans. In humans, the acids in the mouth will activate the solution as needed. This does not seem to be the case with animals, so we activate before use.
As always, keep in mind the normal safety precautions.
Avoid breathing the fumes.
Keep out of the reach of children, pets, and other adults.
Wash hands after mixing and after use.
If the solution is spilled, rinse thoroughly, then wipe up.
Keep the solutions out of eyes, both pet and human, and if some gets in, flush thoroughly.
Have plenty of water available for a rinse afterward.
Good luck.
Tom
