Hi SoulDoc,

"The Science and Fine Art of Fasting" by Dr. Shelton is a condensation of Volume III of his seven volume work entitled "The Hygienic System".

Shelton was indeed an advocate of the "long-fast" as opposed to the "short-fast" because this produced more successful results in the healing of his patients who suffered from chronic and serious diseases.
This is not the case for the most part within the forum and where shorter fasts or an "elimination diet" will achieve the same detoxification, but over a much longer time-frame.

However, he also emphasized that fasting was only as efficacious as the healing power of the body would permit, and if this was one of extreme enervation/weakness then a long fast would not be advisable: each case he said was to judged individually by an experienced supervisor.

Fasting or not, the body is constantly striving towards better and perfect health 24/7, and where the other agencies of Natural Hygiene have an equal importance: especially the diet as now expounded by Dr Fuhrman MD whose career was kick-started by Shelton himself.

Hippocrates said: "Let Food be your Medicine and Let Medicine be your food".
