Re: Chiropractor
Good question...
What to look for: Thompson technique. The Thompson drop table eliminates the lumbar roll adjustment. No lumbar rolls. Yeah, every now and then, if properly applied they'll work but for the most part stay away from them. They're very hard on the lumbar discs.
Intersegmental Traction. Dr. Jimmy Cox developed this back in 85. It will resolve lumbar disc problems. I teach a variation of this for home application.
Upper cervical. Must be proficient in upper cervical adjusting. C1 and C2. Very, very important. Lots of good techniques for this application. None of this "cracking" the neck just to hear the joints pop. No quick rotary movements.
You don't need adjusting three times a week for six months. Sometimes we get patients that need that but it's very rare. I only had two all of last year.
You should notice improvement almost immediately. About 20 percent of the time it gets a bit worse before it gets better. That usually only lasts 24 hours or so and by the second day it's coming around pretty good. Either way, give the guy two weeks. If you're not improving by then find someone else.
So, Thompson table and technique, Intersegmental traction and upper cervical proficiency.
The best bet is to ask around and see who other people suggest.
