Is coconut oil heating or cooling?

In ayurvedic medicine coconut oil is considered cooling. They actually suggest that one uses sesame oil for feet massaging but if someone suffers from heat should use coconut oil instead.
Based on that, one would expect that ingestion of coconut oil would have a cooling effect on the body.
However, most users report an elevation of body temperature and having warmer limbs.
How is this so? Could anyone explain it?
